Joan Overby (left), executive director of clinics, outreach and outpatient services, was recognized as Greene County Medical Center’s 2013 Employee of the Year at the Dec. 6 employee awards banquet and holiday gathering. She was also recognized for five years of service at the medical center. The award presentation was made by medical center CEO Carl Behne (right).
The medical center offers all employees the opportunity to nominate co-workers for this yearly award. Nomination papers for Overby included similar attributes in a variety of ways. She was described as having a “genuine commitment to both patient and employees.” She was noted for having strong leadership skills with the ability to organize, motivate and support staff.
It is because of these attributes that Overby has progressed from project manager of the now-established Advanced Women’s Care clinic in 2008 to her current position as executive director of clinics, outreach and outpatient services. In her five years at the medical center, Overby has been able to successfully lead the growth of the Advanced Women’s Care and West Central Orthopedic clinics. She has also been instrumental in patient outreach and specialty clinic development.
Coincidentally, Overby received the monthly commendation from CEO Behne at the November board of trustees meeting. He acknowledged at that time that “the clinics have seen positive growth under her leadership and the new service line of occupational health has 25 local businesses utilizing various services.” Behne also noted that most recently, Overby has started working with the outpatient departments to increase services and volumes.
The standing ovation after the announcement made it evident that the 2013 employee of the year award was well-deserved.
